ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday launched another corruption investigation against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and others. An official said that the bureau converted inquiry expansion of Riawind Road into an investigation against Sharif and others.

According to an official statement issued by the NAB, the decision to this effect was taken in the NAB's executive board meeting presided over by the NAB Chairman, Justice (retired) Javed Iqabl.

The meeting also approved launching an inquiry against Shehbaz Sharif, former Punjab chief minister, Sattar Aziz, former senator, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, former deputy inspector general (DIG) traffic police, Punjab, and others; Mehr Hamid Rashid, member Punjab Assembly, Mehr Abdur Rauf, the owners/developers and others of Heaven Villas Faisalabad, Attiqur Rehman, Sheikh Ejaz Ahmed, former MPA, and others, and defaulting PhD scholars of the Punjab University.

The meeting also approved filing corruption reference against Arshad Waheed, chief executive officer (CEO), Ms ERPL and others, for their alleged abuse of authority.

The bureau also approved closing investigations against Shehbaz Sharif, former Punjab chief minister, Javed Mehmood, former secretary to the chief minister Punjab, Ahmed Khan Cheema, former director general, Lahore Development Authority and others due to absence of proof.

The EBM authorised closing inquiries against management, officers, officials and others of the FIEDMC Environment Management Company, management/officers, officials and others of the Lahore Transport Company and Gujranwala Waste Management Company due to absence of evidence.
